Pilot Shortage
Over the past two years the aviation industry have seen some evidence of a pilot shortage. Ever since the end of the cold war there been less pilots coming out the military. On top of that, over the last ten years we seen a spike in fuel which lead to steady & higher fuel for aviation. The higher fuel has made it extremely expensive to learn to fly. With the starting salary for many commuter pilots at about 20,000 a year many potential students don't find it financially feasible to pursue a career as a pilot. Just last year Daniel Webster College a leader in aviation pilot training decided to close it's flight department after 45 years. In many countries they come to recruit American trained pilots & provide them with better incentives. Emirates Airlines actively recruits in the U.S. Just recently last year the FAA said they had the lowest applications for commercial pilot certificates in years. All this lead me to think a pilot shortage is coming soon. The question remains if the aviation industry can avoid this shortage.
