Visiting The Cockpit

I always encourage fearful fliers during the boarding process to visit the cockpit of their flights. It's always a good idea to ask the flight attendant to visit & say hello. Let them know that you are a nervous flier. By telling the flight crew you are a nervous flier there are three benefits. One is that you're no longer alone. The flight crew could act as a travel buddy who will understand your concern. The flight attendants would be in a unique position to look after you better & give you special attention if you need it. It strokes their ego & they feel pride in knowing that they're helping someone.  Second, the pilots could inform you what to expect to help put your mind at ease. If it's going to be a smooth flight they will be honest & tell you. Likewise, if they expect it to be turbulence they may say something like we expect a few bumps in the climb out, but otherwise the rest of the flight should be smooth. I never lie about turbulence. In any case, this could give you comfort in advance if you know what to expect versus not knowing. The pilots could also show you a tour of the cockpit & point out all the safety features. Finally, another reason for visiting the cockpit is to develop a personal connection with the pilots of your flight. This would remind the pilots that there are precious cargo on board & to handle the flight with care.
