In flight Anxiety
It was reported last week by the associated press that a Playboy centerfold tried to exit off a moving airplane last week after suffering high anxiety. The 21 year old model was abroad Jetblue flight 522 from Orlando, Florida to Newark when she suddenly bolted from her seat & tried to open the emergency exit. This happens quite often to fearful fliers. My concern is the potential security concerns if people were not aware of her anxiety & panic attack. There had been incidents in the past when crews, passengers, or Federal Air Marshals used deadly force because they mistook a passengers panic attack for an attempted breach to the cockpit, or some other sinister plot. In fact, a passenger was killed by a air marshall two years ago after they thought he was threatening to use a bomb. The passenger had bipolar & haven't been taking their medication. That is why I am a strong advocate for having a support network, or someone by your side on a flight that understands your anxiety. At the very least, fearful fliers should visit the cockpit to let the crew know they are a nervous flier. If you suffer a panic attack while they're pushing back from the gate they won't think your a security risk & maybe they can even help you get through that episode of anxiety.

I believe that flying with a companion who is aware of your condition is a must, not only for your own peace of mind, but also for your well being.
It saddens me to hear that people have lost their lives due to misunderstanding.
