Airline Blacklist
The European Union recently banned most of Iran's airline fleet from flying to Europe due to safety concerns. This is not the first time the E.U. have banned foreign airlines into the European Union. Last year, the E.U. banned Indonesia Airlines after a safety audit. The E.U. started a blacklist in 2006. Today there are about 278 airlines on this blacklist . Most of these airlines are small operators from Africa, & Asia were they been plagued with safety problems. When traveling over seas on a foreign carrier you should
always check the safety reputation for that carrier. Most American, Canadian, & European carriers have good safety reputations as well as some Asian carriers. Sometimes regulations, oversight & changing the airline culture is all that is needed to improve an airline, or country safety reputation. Some airlines in Eastern Europe like Russia & the Baltic States have been plagued with accidents in the past several years. Africa, South America, & parts of Central America should be checked out for their safety record before you buy a ticket.
