Runway Incursions
Runway Incursions had been on the rise for most of the decade. A runway incursion is when an aircraft, or vehicle cross an active taxi way, or runway without air traffic control permission. Runway incursions was something that had the FAA worried we might see a repeat of a deadly accident that happened in LA when a US Air B-737 landed on top of a turboprop commuter airplane back in the early 90's. The FAA came out with several good steps in the 90's to combat runway incursions. One of the first things they did was to admit early that they had a problem. Next, they got the word out with safety awareness bulltins & education to warn both pilots, air traffic controllers, aircraft operators like catering service trucks, & maintance personnel who sometimes taxi aircraft to better situational awareness. The FAA also been cracking down on airline operators to makesure pilots have their airport diagram charts out while taxiing the aircraft. Other improvements are airline operations redoing some checklists so pilots can read ,call & complete out their checklist items before aircraft movement so that both sets of eyes are always looking outside the aircraft. All these little improvements have paid off with the FAA announcing this early this week that runway incursions had dramtically drop down this last decade. That is good news for safety & reflect airline crews diligence & hard work on being professional aviators.

Yea, That's good for all of us that runway incursions had drop down. Thanks again Capt. for your informative post.I have learned a lot of things from your articles.
