Security

As this article is being printed, a news flash came out about a US Airways pilot involved in an accidental gun discharge on the flight deck. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The bullet actually came out the door. Despite critic's argument, there was no decompression. The pilot was a FFDO, or Federal Flight Deck Officer which was created by congress, & TSA after 9/11 to arm pilots. The program in my opinion has been a success because it cut down on the amount of assaults in the cockpit. If many of you remember about a year before 9/11 there were a rash of incidents of breaches in the cockpit due to air rage. Then we had 9/11, that change our history. FFDO's are a vital part of our security along with air marshals. All FFDO's are volunteer pilots who must go through a week of grueling training on firearms use, hand to hand combat & gun safety. Having FFDO's saves the government & tax payers money. It's a lot cheaper & quicker to train FFDO's & it acts as an additional layer of security. I believe it will be extremely difficult for terrorist to breach the cockpit as they did on 9/11. Whats important is that the public not lose confidence in the program after this one gun discharge incident.
