Job Well Done! AA

Quite often I witness passengers coming off the airplane & complain about minor issues like their luggage, lack of airline food, or delays. But one thing I notice absent sometimes is a simple thanks for getting us here safely. I think many passengers today are taking for granted safety because there hasn't been any major accidents in a few years. This is further evident how safe flying actually is. There's an old saying in aviation that safety is not an accident. It must be practiced. This simply means that pilots, & aviation professionals must practice situational awareness, and be disciplined daily in order to prevent complacency. This past weekend was a perfect example as we witness an American Airlines MD-80 flight 862 make an emergency landing due to a faulty landing gear. The aircraft landed safely in Miami with no injuries. The pilots did a wonderful job! The successful landing of this flight is credited to the devotion of the flight crew who perform training like this in the flight simulator countless times. Many people are not aware that pilots study & train as much as a medical physician. The studying & upgrading of skills is never ending. Passengers should rest assure that they are in safe hands.
