Unfriendly Skies!
It seem with the recent increase with air traffic these past couple of years we have also seen an increase of irrational incidents on flights. Sure, I'll be the first to say that airlines have been cutting back on service in these last few years. Its no surprise when you look at the recent oil prices hovering at around $96 a barrel. Also, with the invent of the internet about 12 years ago people could now search for cheap fares online making it harder for airlines to raise fares to compete. As are result, service is cut & you see more passenger compliants.
One incident happen on a Continental flight from Newark to Amsterdam when the toilets overflowed causing passengers to smell human excrement for seven hours as passengers explained it on station King 5 news.
Skywest Airlines apologized to a passenger who said he was forced to urinate in an airsickness bag during a short flight in March because the only restroom was closed due to malfunction. In another incident, a 64 year old man in Germany was hospitalized earlier this month after chugging a liter of vodka rather than surrendering it at a security check point. I have witness many incidents of passengers abusing flight attendants simply because they were doing their jobs & enforcing regulations. The amount of incidents like this are mind boggling. But, I believe all these incidents are because we lost the romance of flight . I do remember a time when it was fun to fly, classy & service was impeccable. But, in all fairness the fault lies both with the airlines, & the passengers. The passengers must realize when dealing with air travel, you will have weather delays so you must have a little patience anytime you come to the airport. But with increase air traffic comes increase competition. I think eventually service will return to the level it once was.
